Before I left my home state of Tennessee and moved “out west” I specialized in rivers and streams. There are few of either out here, so now I specialize in Historical and Historical Artchitecture. I am concerned that so much American history is vanishing right before our eyes. Of particular concern is the the American barns. They are disappearing, replaced by metal monstrosities as American family farms vanish. In place of the family farm we now find the corporate farm which is so fond of ugly, rusting metal buildings with no personalities. Another example: In Nashville, TN, one historical building is razed for, of all things, a fast food joint. Another historical building is demolished and replaced with a Walgreens. If you are like most placid Americans you may not realize that your grandchildren and their children and children of future generations will see a very different America than the one we know.
My job is to preserve, on film or otherwise, images of these structures and places that have made the United States what it is. Maybe someone with the proper authority or enough people will see my images and say, “Hold everything! What are we doing?”
We can only hope.
